If you can configure your thick client to use a proxy which should be possible, you can record traffic with JMeter HTTP(S) Test Script Recorder

The idea is to push thick client traffic through JMeter proxy which is smart enough to detect traffic and record it into JMeter HTTP Requests.

See Load Testing Mobile Apps. But Made Easy. guide for details. Just substitute mobile bit with your thick client.

Thanks for the reply, I am new to jmeter can you please explain how to configure the thick client to use proxy, I have a desktop apllication which I am trying to record.
